SNUBA? (2)

SNUBA divers breathe air through a regulator that's joined to a very long air hose. The hose connects the diver to air tanks. The hose connects the diver to air tanks. These heavy thanks rest in a raft that floats on the water. The long hose gives swimmers the ability to dive up to six meters below the surface.

Before my SNUBA adventure began, our instructor, "Big John," gave us a 15-minute safety lesson. He patiently taught us how to use the equipment and some underwater hand signs.

After we had mastered these skills, John led us down into the crystal-clear depths. By the time our tour ended, SNUBA had become my new favorite water sport. If you decide to try it, go with an official SNUBA dive company. I chose Oasis Divers in Grand Turk. They've been voted one of the top dive operations in the world. Oasis Divers has a favorite saying: "We're in the amazing business!" They were right. I was amazed by the entire experience, above and below the water!

Info Cloud
scratch the surface 避重就輕、流於形式

Hello, everyone. And welcome to Info Cloud. I love learning about new things, don't you?

I do, too. What was your favorite class in college?

I really liked philosophy. But I soon realized that the class I took only scratched the surface.

That's a great phrase to learn. If you scratch the surface of a topic, that means you just learn a little bit. Your knowledge is still very superficial.

We often use modifiers like only, barely or hardly before this phrase.

This travel article barely scratches the surface of all there is to see and do in Bali.

We can also use this phrase to talk about something that is just beginning.

Like when there's a huge problem that needs to be solved.

The government bailout checks only scratch the surface of the larger economic problems they'll need to deal with.

Good example. This phrase may come from farming. Before you plant a seed, you need to dig deep enough to prepare the soil.

If you only scratch the surface, you may have a hard time planting seeds.

So, you need to dig deeper. That's important with learning new things, too. Well, I hope we have more than scratched the surface with telling you about this English phrase.

當你想要表達一件事情只是避重就輕、流於形式,或許可以用今天分享的用語 scratch the surface 來形容。scratch the surface 字面上是抓了一下表面,並沒有相當深入,This travel article barely scratches the surface about visiting Bali. 這篇旅遊報導很表面地介紹峇里島的旅遊資訊。我們可以用副詞 only, barely 或 hardly 來搭配scratch the surface。例如一件事情 only scratches the surface, barely scratches the surface 還有 hardly scratches the surface。
