Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2)

Charlie's beloved Grandpa Joe goes with him to the factory. Inside, everyone marvels at the sights, sounds and delicious smells. They meet the Oompa-Loompas who work there. Charlie and Grandpa Joe listen carefully and follow the instructions. But the other children leave the tour one by one for failing to do the same. While attempting to drink from the chocolate river, greedy Augustus Gloop falls in and gets sucked up a glass pipe. Veruca Salt is judged to be a bad nut and is thrown into the garbage.

After grabbing a piece of experimental gum, Violet Beauregarde chews it and turns into a giant blueberry. Mike Teavee shrinks himself and must be carried out in his father's pocket.

When only Charlie is left, Willy Wonka congratulates him. Charlie has won! The tour had been a contest - and the prize is the chocolate factory! Charlie, Grandpa Joe and Willy Wonka enter the Great Glass Elevator which breaks through the factory roof and crashed down into Charlie's home. The rest of the Bucket family is pushed into the elevator and taken back to the chocolate factory, their new home.

Info Cloud
itchy fingers

Welcome to Info Cloud, everyone. I'm so excited to tell you about today's tip.

Wow, Anne Marie, you really sound enthusiastic.

Well, we have some great information to share, so I've got itchy fingers.

But we don't use our fingers to teach Info Cloud.

You're right. But if we say someone has itchy fingers, that means they're very eager to do something.

By the second day of his vacation, Jeff started getting itchy fingers to do something.

A lot of people have trouble relaxing on vacation.

But we should mention that if we use this phrase with another part of the hand, the meaning is totally different.

What do you mean?

If we say someone has an itchy or itching palm, that means they're greedy.

Oh. I've seen that before when someone is expecting a tip, they may hold the palm of their hand up waiting for money.

Yes. But this is seen as a negative thing in many places. It might also mean that someone wants a bribe. The greedy mayor was known for his itchy palm.

It would be better if he had itchy fingers to improve his city.

當我們用中文說有人手癢的時候,那就代表他們很想做某件事情,英文是用 itchy fingers來表達,itchy fingers 字面上是手指頭在癢,Jeff started getting itchy fingers on his vacation. Jeff 在休假期間又開始手癢,想做事情了。

除了itchy fingers之外,還有 itchy palm 的說法,意思跟itchy fingers完全不一樣,代表貪心、手拿了不該拿的東西。The greedy official was known for his itchy palm. 那位貪心的官員是出了名的手不乾淨,這種說法通常是指收了不該收的錢。itchy fingers跟itchy palm之間的差別,不曉得你清楚了嗎?
